ITCHING FOR A CURE, ROAD TO CONNECTICUT $100,000 MATCHING DONATION FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE

We need your help now! Together we can succeed in this amazing new challenge!

THE CHALLENGE: Help us raise $100,000 for PSC research before our annual conference (May 14-16, 2010), and see your contributions grow to $200,000 through matching funds from an incredibly generous anonymous donor who has offered to match the first $100,000 that our members raise!!

WHY: Never before have we had this unprecedented opportunity to raise funds to research the treatment, causes and cure for PSC. The Scientific/Medical Advisory Committee will be meeting again in August 2010 to continue funding cutting-edge research on PSC. Please help the committee fund the best and brightest investigators to solve the puzzle of PSC. As of the end of 2009, PSC Partners Seeking a Cure is proud to be supporting $317,706 in research grants. Help us bring this total to > $0.5 million in 2010!

HOW: To join our Itching for a Cure/Road to Connecticut fundraiser, please consider donating whatever you can, contacting family and friends to donate, or holding your own local fundraiser. Together, we are traveling the “virtual” road from Chicago, where we held our 2009 conference, all the way to Hartford, Connecticut where we will be holding our 2010 conference May 14-16. On our route, we will be making stops at Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, New York City, New Haven and finally Hartford. The Chicago to Detroit, Detroit to Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh to Buffalo, Buffalo to New York City and New York City to New Haven legs of our journey will each be achieved by raising $15,000, for a total of $75,000 (5x$15,000). The final and most important leg from New Haven to Hartford will be achieved by raising $25,000, for a grand total of $100,000. If you watch our map below, you will see that each time that we reach one of our designated cities, our anonymous donor will kick in another part of the 1:1 matching donation.

Every dollar donated will take us closer to our destination. Keep an eye on our map to see our progress to Hartford. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us reach our goal. Take advantage of this incredible offer to have every dollar you donate be doubled! Every contribution is another step taken toward a cure. In 2009, our Itching for a Cure/Road to Chicago fundraiser brought in $144,869, so we’re hoping to surpass that amount in 2010.

Save the Day Fundraiser

Our first Save the Day fundraising event, held the weekend of October 3-4, 2009, was so successful that we’ve decided to make it our annual fall fundraiser. This is the chance for all PSCers nationally and internationally to hold a local fundraiser of their choice. In 2009, here were some ideas that our members came up with:

  • Yard sales
  • Bake sales
  • Tapas dinner
  • Personal change jars at home/at work
  • Movie night at someone’s home
  • Walkathon
  • Golf tournament
  • Donation of Las Vegas winnings

Thank you to Lee B., Sandi P., and Joanne G. for organizing this project. Thank you to all our members who held individual fundraisers, and especially to our top fundraisers: Crissy N., Nicola P., Libbie B., Jeff and Reggie B., Barbara S., Sara G., Sandi P., Karen P., Theresa H., Joanne G., anonymous donor, Bek G., and Jackson B.

We’re together in this fight, whatever it takes. Together, we will Save the Day!
