Clinical
Trials

Clinical trials study potential new treatments that may slow PSC disease progression, manage symptoms, or otherwise improve PSC care. Your participation in clinical trials can help bring us closer to a cure for PSC.

It is always your choice to participate in a study, and you can withdraw at any time. Every study listed below is completely confidential and will not reveal identifying patient information to others.

Types of Clinical Studies

Interventional Trials

Participants receive specific interventions, such as drugs or devices, to evaluate their safety and effectiveness in treating PSC.

Observational Studies

Researchers collect real-world data from participants in their current life. No intervention (change) is made in participant medications or care. These studies may collect previous health history or prospectively enroll patients to follow them over time

Registry-Based Studies

In addition to the PSC Partners Patient Registry, other registries are open to people living with PSC. You can join multiple registries if you match the requirements for each registry.

The Four Phases of Clinical Trials

1

Safety

Confirming a treatment is safe in humans; Typically 20-100 healthy individuals; Several months

2

Early effectiveness & dosing

Preliminary proof of effectiveness and safety data; Typically 100-300 patients with PSC; Several months to 2 years

3

Confirming effectiveness

The key study to confirm effectiveness and safety before approval; Typically hundreds of patients with PSC; 1 to 5 years

4

Post-approval monitoring

Long term observation; Thousands of people receiving the treatment; Several years
